Report: Texas Longhorns Star T'Vondre Sweat Arrested on DWI Charge
AUSTIN - Texas Longhorns defensive lineman T'Vondre Sweat is preparing for the NFL Draft, as one of the more highly touted players at his position in the class.
However, his journey to the next level just got a little more complicated.
On Saturday night, Sweat was arrested by the Austin Police Department on a DWI charge on Saturday night, LonghornsCountry has confirmed. DWIs are a Class B misdemeanor in Texas. Per the Travis County Jail, Sweat was booked at 2:12 pm, and bail has not yet been set.
KXAN's Nabil Brent Remadna was first to report the incident.
Sweat was arguably the biggest star of the Longhorns 2023-24 College Football Playoff run this past season, winning the Outland Trophy for the nation's most outstanding interior lineman. He also won the Big 12 Player of the Year Award.
Sweat was also named a unanimous All-American, becoming the 24th Longhorn in program history to earn unanimous the honors, and the fifth defensive tackle to do so, joining Scott Appleton (1963), Brad Shearer (1977), Steve McMichael (1979) and Kenneth Sims (1981).
This past season, Sweat posted 42 total tackles, two sacks, and five passes defended during the regular season. He also caught a two-yard touchdown in Texas' 49-21 win over the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the Big 12 Championship.
In his five-year career at Texas, Sweat tallied 127 total tackles, five sacks, 15 passes defended and one forced fumble. He'll likely be one of the top defensive linemen selected in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Sweat has largely been considered a Day 2 pick in the upcoming Draft, recently being mocked to teams like the Houston Texans who are in desperate need of interior defensive line help.
This is a developing story and will be updated when more information becomes available.
