WATCH: Longhorns Signee Elite LB Anthony Hill Makes BIG Hit All American Bowl Practice
While there is still definite room for improvement, the Texas Longhorns took a massive step forward defensively in their second season under coach Steve Sarkisian and defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski.
In their first season in Austin, the Longhorns defense was downright bad. They allowed opponents to score 31.1 points, which was 99th out of 130 FBS teams, on 426.4 yards of total offense per game.
One year later and the Longhorns defense was vastly improved. They held opponents to 21.6 points per game, 28th out of 130 FBS teams, on 368.4 yards of total offense. Now, to make an elite defense even better, they are adding an elite 2023 recruiting class.
Among those elite recruits is linebacker Anthony Hill, who is the No. 1 linebacker in the state of Texas this recruiting cycle. At Thursday's All American Bowl practice, Hill displayed some of what made him such a coveted recruit for the Longhorns.
Hill is joined in the 2023 class by linebackers S'Maje Burrell and Liona Lefau, as they will look to earn playing time early on a Longhorns defense that continues to improve under Kwiatkowski.
