Texas Slides Past Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Wins Third Straight

The Texas Longhorns put together their third consecutive win on Friday.

Coming off of back-to-back wins vs. Houston Christian and LSU, the Texas Longhorns were looking to make it three straight against the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders on Friday.

And after another big game from Max Abmas, that's exactly what they did, taking down the Islanders 71-55 at the Moody Center in Austin.

As mentioned, it was Abmas who led the way for Texas, with the senior newcomer notching 17 points and five assists in 37 minutes of action, while hitting 5 of 10 from the floor. Abmas did struggle from three, hitting just 1 of 6, but still led the Longhorns in scoring.

Big man Dillon Mitchell also had a big night for the Horns, finishing with a 14-point, 13-rebound double-double in 30 minutes, while Tyrese Hunter had a nice all-around performance of 11 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Hunter did struggle from the floor, shooting just 4 of 10 from the field, and had five turnovers.

In total, five Longhorns finished in double figures in scoring, with Dylan Disu adding 11 points off of the bench, and Brock Cunningham adding 10 points, four rebounds, four assists, and two blocks.

As a team, the Longhorns hit 48.1 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three, while knocking down 15 of 19 free throw attempts. On the other end, they held the Islanders in check, allowing them to hit just 35.6 percent from the field and 22.2 percent from three.

Following the win, the No. 19 Horns (9-2) now turn their attention to their final two nonconference games of the season before Big 12 play begins.

That will start with UNC Greensboro on December 29, followed by a New Year's Day matchup vs. UT Arlington - both of which will tip off at the Moody Center.

After that, the Longhorns will open Big 12 play with Texas Tech in Austin on Jan 6.
