No. 7 Texas Longhorns vs. TCU Horned Frogs: How to Watch, Betting Odds

The Longhorns travel one more time to Amon G. Carter Stadium with a chance to dethrone the national champion runner-ups

The Texas Longhorns head to Amon G. Carter Stadium for the final time as Big 12 members to take on the TCU Horned Frogs.

Last season, the Longhorns remained a dark horse to make the Big 12 title game, but TCU had College Football Playoff aspirations on its mind. Kendre Miller broke free for a 75-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to make it 10-0. Davey O'Brien winner and Heisman runner-up Max Duggan connected with Quentin Johnston at the start of the fourth quarter for the 31-yard score.

The Longhorns (8-1, 5-1 Big 12) always seem to wake up for the big games. That's somewhat part of the long-running joke of how Texas isn't "back" after dropping what was supposed to be a sure-fire win.

And yes, Texas has been close this season. In Week 1, Rice jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before the offense found a rhythm in the second quarter. After defeating Nick Saban in front of 105,000-plus Alabama fans, the Horns returned to Austin and entered a dogfight with Wyoming until the start of the fourth quarter.

Houston nearly completed the comeback after Quinn Ewers left with a shoulder injury in the fourth quarter. Kansas State forced last week's game into overtime despite Texas holding a 20-point lead with a minute remaining in the third.

Yes, Saturday is a trap game. Even in victories, the Longhorns have struggled to pull away late. And with Ewers returning, perhaps Texas finds more consistency on offense.

Then again, one lousy throw could toss away any chance of making the College Football Playoff in 2023.
