Report: Texas Longhorns 'Team to Watch' for South Carolina Transfer WR Antwane Wells Jr.

The Texas Longhorns will likely need to address the wide receiver room this offseason via the transfer portal. Could South Carolina receiver Antwane Wells Jr. be an option?

After some early buzz, reports are now connecting the Texas Longhorns to one of the best receivers in the transfer portal.

Texas and Tenneseee have "emerged as schools to watch" in the recruiting race for South Carolina Gamecocks transfer receiver Antwane "Juice" Wells, per reports from On3. As a graduate transfer, he'd be immediately eligible.

Wells, who played two seasons at James Madison before transferring to South Carolina in 2022, has posted 187 catches for 2,818 yards and 28 touchdowns in his four-year career. He's also added three carries for 19 yards and another score.

He was teammates with one-time Longhorns linebacker and former James Madison standout Diamonte Tucker-Dorsey, who took to social media after the initial portal rumors surfaced last week to add some fuel to the transfer portal fire for Longhorns fans.

Based on his experience and production, Longhorn fans would likely love to see him in Austin, and now there appears to be some real buzz surrounding that possibility.

Wells was limited by injury this season. He played in just three games before suffering an injury against Georgia in the third game of the year. He finished the 2023 campaign with three catches for 37 yards and a touchdown.

The receiving corps will be an area that Sarkisian and the Texas staff will have no choice but to address this offseason. Xavier Worthy and Adonai Mitchell are more than likely headed to the NFL, while Jordan Whittington is out of eligibility. Tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders is also likely to go pro, meaning Texas could have a new-look offense next season.

But before worrying too much about the transfer portal, the Longhorns will look ahead to the College Football Playoff on Jan. 1 against Washington.
