Texas Longhorns Join Other Top 10 Teams That Got Tested in Week 8

The Texas Longhorns weren't the only high-ranked team that got tested on Saturday.
In this story:

The No. 8 Texas Longhorns squeaked by the Houston Cougars in a 31-24 win on Saturday at TDECU Stadium. Despite the thrills of the finish, the Longhorns showed that they still have tons to improve on if they want to keep their Big 12 Championship hopes alive.

But while many Texas fans are likely feeling frustrated with the team's lackluster performance in the win, the Longhorns were hardly the only top-10 team to play far from its best. Out of the seven games that featured a top-10 team on Saturday, five ended within one score.

Here's a look at how things fared for the top 10 on Saturday:

Florida State's double-digit win arguably deserves an asterisk, as the Blue Devils lost starting quarterback Riley Leonard for the game. He exited with about six minutes left in the third as Duke led 20-17. After his injury, the Seminoles scored 21 unanswered.

Despite Texas' win, there's some understandable reason to be concerned if you're a Longhorns fan. Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers had to leave during the fourth quarter on Saturday after suffering a shoulder injury. It's unclear as of now what his injury timetable looks like, and it obviously clouds

The Longhorns could now lean on Maalik Murphy in next week's matchup at home against the BYU Cougars (5-2).
