WATCH: Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers Shows Off Wheels on TD Run vs. Baylor
WACO, Texas -- Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers did his own Vince Young impression in the first half of Saturday's Big 12 opener against the Baylor Bears at McLane Stadium.
Faced with a 3rd and 10, Ewers avoided the pass rush before running down the sideline for a 29-yard touchdown to extend Texas' first-half lead to 14-3.
It seemed like the Baylor secondary would stop him at the sideline, but Ewers broke free after following a key block from tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders. The scamper marked the longest run of Ewers' college career thus far.
Take a look:
The Texas offense hasn't been the team's most consistent unit this season, but Ewers has found a way to make plays. He's now got three rushing touchdowns this season after having just one last season.
“I think just every aspect of the passing game needs to improve,” Sarkisian said Monday during his weekly recap presser. “It just felt like we weren’t as sharp. We had a protection breakdown in there, didn’t have the best play calls predicated on what the coverages were. I think Quinn could’ve probably made a couple of throws that he usually makes.”
However, Sarkisian continues to emphasize his trust in Ewers.
“He’s been in some big-time environments and has performed at the highest level in those environments,” Sarkisian said. “And maybe in some other ones, not so hot. But I think he’s learned from those, and so I trust in Quinn. This guy is more than capable of having a big-time season for us.”
