Xavier Worthy Thinks Longhorns Culture is 'Stronger Than Ever'
The Texas Longhorns ended the Alabama Crimson Tide's home game win streak (21) on Saturday by a 10-point deficit. Texas junior wide receiver Xavier Worthy blames the established Longhorn community for their upset.
"I feel like this shows how our culture has gotten better," Worthy said. "It shows how we stay together as a team. Like I've been saying, the culture here is stronger than ever. I feel like we came in here as one... and showed that we are really together and we have something going on."
Heading into Saturday's game, the Longhorns craved a different outcome than the 20-19 loss against the Crimson Tide at DKR Stadium last season. But some things were different this time around. For one, the Longhorns were going to have to compete with home-field advantage. However, Texas approached this year's matchup with more confidence, and that proved to be a heavy difference in their field play.
"It was honestly just the confidence," Texas senior defensive back Jahdae Barron said. "Just knowing that we were on the road...we knew what we had to do. Sark told us at the beginning of the week 'get behind me' so we got behind him and we trust Sark all the way."
Overall, finishing strong until the time clock hit zero in the fourth quarter was a game-changer for the Longhorns. Texas learned from their mistakes last year against Alabama and made sure to stay on course on Saturday, even after briefly losing grip of the lead.
"I think that just goes to show how mature we are as a team." Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers said. "After how much adversity we went through last year, and to learn from that and be able to bounce back, like you said our offense didn't flinch and the defense didn't either. I couldn't be more proud of these guys."
