"They asked me, 'Why Texas?' I say, 'Why NOT Texas?' 1000% Committed," new Texas Longhorns 2025 quarterback commit KJ Lacey tweeted on Saturday.
In this story:

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas Longhorns and coach Steve Sarkisian keep on ringing in more talent at the quarterback position.

The Longhorns secured a major commitment from 2025 Saraland (Ala.) quarterback KJ Lacey on Saturday after he attended the Texas Elite Camp in Austin. He had been fielding offers from a slew of other elite programs, including Alabama, TCU, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Auburn, Oklahoma and many more.

Lacey tweeted out the news himself and said he's "1000% committed."

"They asked me, 'Why Texas?' I say, 'Why NOT Texas?' 1000% Committed," he wrote.

Lacey, a four-star talent who is the No. 5 quarterback in his class per 247Sports' rankings, now becomes the first commitment in Texas' 2025 recruiting class. He's the latest of many other elite quarterbacks to choose the Longhorns over the past two years, joining Quinn Ewers, Maalik Murphy, Arch Manning, and 2024 commit Trey Owens.

In the 2022 campaign, Lacey was 200 of 314 passing for 3177 yards with 40 touchdowns and five interceptions. He added four rushing scores as well.

The Longhorns will now be hoping this jump-starts a talented and deep 2025 recruiting class headlined by Lacey.
