Texas Projected To Have Five Picks In First Two Rounds Of Upcoming NFL Draft
The NFL Draft is a couple of months away, which means players across the world have a chance to boost their draft stock even more.
The Texas Longhorns have arguably one of their deepest draft classes ever, and in CBS Sports' latest NFL mock draft, there are five Longhorns projected to go in the first two rounds. This comes as no surprise when you consider that Texas had its best season in 15 years, winning the Big 12 in their last season in the conference, and also making it to the College Football Playoff in what was the final four-team playoff.
Here is where each of the Longhorns went in Chris Trapasso's latest mock draft:
T'Vondre Sweat, DL
Round: 2
Pick: 59
Team: Houston Texans
The Outland Trophy winner is projected to stay in the state of Texas and go to the Houston Texans in this scenario. He turned a lot of heads at the Reese's Senior Bowl, showcasing both his size and strength that makes him nearly unstoppable. He is viewed as someone who can come in right away and clog up the middle for an NFL team.
Ja'Tavion Sanders, TE
Round: 2
Pick: 52
Team: Los Angeles Chargers
After playing for one of the top offensive minds in college football, Sanders is projected to end up playing for one of the best offensive minds in the NFL. While he did see his numbers dip a bit, he still showcased his ability to haul in just about every catch and could emerge as one of the top tight ends in the league.
Xavier Worthy, WR
Round: 2
Pick: 46
Team: Indianapolis Colts
Texas's speedy wide receiver continues to be around the end of the first or top of the second. He has elite speed, route running, and when he is healthy can haul in passes with the best of them. This projects that he would team up with one of the best young quarterbacks in former Florida star Anthony Richardson.
Adonai Mitchell, WR
Round: 1
Pick: 23
Team: Houston Texans
This is a considerable boost for Mitchell, who when he typically shows up in the first round is taken in the final couple of picks. Trapasso explained that in his lone year in Austin, Mitchell showcased his ability to be a team's primary target. Along with joining Sweat in Houston, he would also link up with CJ Stroud and Tank Dell who formed one of the best young duos in the league.
Byron Murphy II, DL
Round: 1
Pick: 17
Team: Jacksonville Jaguars
In just about every mock draft, Byron Murphy finds himself in the top 20 picks. Trappaso thinks he can provide a dominant force in the middle of the line for the Jags, which if Murphy is able to build off his career year, that is exactly what he will do at the next level.
