Urban Meyer Believes Texas Longhorns 'Will Be Right There' in College Football Playoff Race

Urban Meyer believes in the Texas Longhorns College Football Playoff chances.
In this story:

The Texas Longhorns may have lost to the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday, but their season is far from over.

And according to former Ohio State Buckeyes and Florida Gators head coach Urban Meyer, the Horns should be right in the thick of things by the time College Football Playoff selection comes around.

“I do believe Texas, at the end of the day, will be right there,” Meyer said. “It’s going to be Oklahoma and Texas, probably, in the Big 12 Championship. But you’re a product of what you did. So that means they’re a top-four, top-five team."

Obviously, the Longhorns will have to emerge as Big 12 champions for the playoff to be a realistic possibility, and there are some things that have to happen before They can make it Arlington for a shot at that title.

For starters, Texas needs to win the remaining games on its schedule, they also need West Virginia - who is currently undefeated in Big 12 play - to lose somewhere along the way.

(But we've the Longhorns playoff chances full covered here.)

For now, Meyer believes Texas just need to stay the course, and find a way to fix what problems they do have.

“They are knocking on the door but the amount of football that is left to be played ... Just worry about whoever your next game is and fix issues," Meyer said.

That quest starts this week during the bye, and will carry over to their Oct. 21 matchup with the Houston Cougars.
