Two Longhorns Named To Senior Bowl Roster
Two Texas Longhorns players will don the Burnt Orange helmet one more time before going pro.
Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown and running back Roschon Johnson both accepted their invites to the 2023 Reese's Senior Bowl. The game will be played at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile, Ala. on Feb. 4.
The fifth-year linebacker has started the last 22 games for Texas' defense and played in 38 games since arriving from Arp High School. Under new coordinator Pete Kwitkowski's defensive scheme, Overshown has blossomed into one of the more well-rounded off-ball linebackers in the impending draft class.
Through 10 games, Overshown has recorded a career-best 78 total tackles, eight tackles for loss and three sacks. Last season as a junior, he recorded 74 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and three pass breakups. He also has recorded three career interceptions.
Johnson, the Longhorns' go-to No. 2 runner, has been regarded as one of Texas' prime leaders since arriving from Port Neches-Grove. A quarterback-turned-running back under then-coach Tom Herman, Johnson became a focal point of the offense once Steve Sarkisian entered the building and put an emphasis on the run game.
Last season, Johnson totaled 569 rushing yards on 96 carries and scored five touchdowns. His best game came against Kansas State when he recorded career-highs in carries (30) and rushing yards (179) en route to a 22-17 win.
Through 10 games, Johnson's numbers have been stable. He's recorded 73 rush attempts for 443 yards and scored three touchdowns. For his career, Johnson has totaled 2,079 rushing yards on 372 carries with 24 total touchdowns.
The Longhorns (6-4, 4-2 Big 12) remain in contention for a shot at the Big 12 title, but they must win their final two games against Kansas and Baylor to qualify. Kickoff from David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium against the Jayhawks is set for Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
