'We'll Be Good': Michael Penix Jr. Takes Another Shot At Texas
The Texas Longhorns field one of the best defensive lines in college football, anchored by the Outland Trophy winner, T'Vondre Sweat.
Time and time again, that defensive line has dominated opponents, including one that is in the College Football Playoff - the Alabama Crimson Tide.
However, it seems that Washington Huskies QB Michael Penix Jr. isn't too concerned with what the Longhorns are bringing to the table.
During media availability on Thursday, Penix took a shot at the Longhorns' defensive line, telling reporters that, while the Horns are good up front, they have not faced and offensive line like the Huskies yet this season.
"I’m not going to lie, their D-line is good. But at the same time, they haven’t played our o-line," Penix said. "They play good ball, but I wouldn't say we're playing the 49ers' D-line or the Eagles' D-line, so we'll be good."
This is now the second time Penix has taken an overt shot at the Longhorns ahead of the Sugar Bowl.
Just last week during practice, Penix shaded the Longhorns when asked about their 2022 matchup in the Alamo Bowl - a game the Huskies won by a touchdown.
"I don't remember much, I just remember winning," Penix said.
Washington QB Penix Taking Slight Jab at Longhorns?
This season, both teams are vastly different and improved from their 2022 counterparts.
The Huskies have the No. 1 passing attack in the country and are one of the best teams in the country at protecting the passer, allowing just 11 sacks this season on their way to an undefeated regular season and a Pac 12 title.
The Longhorns meanwhile are top 25 in the nation in total defense, scoring defense, total offense, and scoring offense. In other words, something is going to have to give on Monday night.
And as if they weren't already motivated enough with a chance to play for a national title on the line, Penix just gave the Horns even more bulletin board material.
