WATCH: CJ Baxter Powers In The Tying Score For Texas In The Sugar Bowl
On Monday evening in New Orleans, the No. 3 Texas Longhorns and the No. 2 Washington Huskies are squaring off in what has been a tightly-contested Allstate Sugar Bowl.
The winner of this game advances to the title game in Houston to take on Michigan, while the losers see their dream season come to an end. The Washington Huskies got off to an early lead, which Texas was able to match. An occurrence that happened another time in the second quarter, and one that the Longhorns were hoping to match for a third time with the first half ending.
They did just that as after Quinn Ewers used his legs to scramble for a gain of of 21, which also had an extra three yards added to get them to the goal line following a late hit. They kept it on the ground the very next play as freshman running back CJ Baxter powered in his first touchdown of the day.
The touchdown tied the score up at 21, which was very much needed for the Longhorns as the Huskies will start the second half with the ball.
The run game has been very effective for the Longhorns in the first half, as they have combined for 116 yards as a unit on 6.4 yards per carry. Baxter is leading the way on the ground with seven carries for 53 yards with a long of 16. He and running mate Jaydon Blue each have a score.
Texas, Washington Deadlocked in Sugar Bowl After Back-and-Forth First Half
As for the passing game, Ewers has gone 9-of-18 for 97 yards, and has missed a handful of open throws. They may need Baxter and the run game to take on an even bigger load in order to secure the victory.
