WATCH: Texas Longhorns RB Jonathon Brooks Ties Game vs. Oklahoma with TD
DALLAS, Texas -- Texas Longhorns running back Jonathon Brooks surpassed 1,000 career rushing yards in the second half of Saturday's Red River Rivalry battle against the No. 12 Oklahoma Sooners, but it was the 29-yard touchdown run he had in the fourth quarter that was his most important play of the day up to that point.
With Texas trailing 27-20 in a key spot of the fourth quarter, Brooks came up big after avoiding the defense down the left sideline for the game-tying score.
Take a look:
The run have 19 carries for 123 yards. It put him over 100 yards rushing for the fourth straight game.
Brooks finished last week's win over Kansas with 21 carries for a career-high 218 yards and two touchdowns while adding one catch for 23 yards. For the third straight week, he rushed for at least 100 yards while having a run of 40 yards or more. Brooks had a 67-yard run at the beginning of the second quarter before breaking free for a 54-yard rushing touchdown on the first drive of the second half on Saturday.
Brooks said after the win over Kansas that a career day like that was special.
"It means a lot," he said. "I trust in my o-line, I trusted the calling, and we went to work this week in practice. So we really honed in on finishing blocks and finishing runs and just making that impact."
Headed into Saturday's meeting with Oklahoma, Brooks had the third-most rushing yards in the country with 597 yards on 86 carries and five touchdowns. He's also added five catches for 87 yards and one score.
