WATCH: Texas Longhorns Safety Michael Taaffe Makes Circus INT vs. Kansas State
In what many thought was a cloudy day in Austin but turned out to be smoke from the canons, the No. 7 Texas Longhorns are taking on the No. 23 Kansas State Wildcats.
After jumping off to an early 17-0 lead, the Texas offense which is again led by redshirt freshman Maalik Murphy fizzled. The Wildcats were able to force an interception, as well as block a punt in the ensuing minutes of the first half. This allowed for Kansas State to add a touchdown to cut the lead, and also have some much-needed momentum heading into the half.
To start the second half, the Wildcats came out firing as Will Howard launched a pass down the field on the second play of the half, which was bobbled by the receiver and ended up in the hands of a diving Michael Taaffe who picked it off.
The interception marks the third straight game for Taaffe that he has recorded an interception.
Unfortunately for the offense, they were unable to capitalize off of the interception as they ended up punting, but it has become evident that the play boosted the spirits of the defense. They were able to force a fumble with Kansas State's back up against the goal line, which led to a rushing touchdown by Jonathon Brooks.
The Longhorns are now leading by a score of 24-7, and are looking to pull away from the Wildcats who are hoping to connect on some big plays as the game goes on.
