DALLAS, Texas -- Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers struggled to find his rhythm in the first quarter of Saturday's meeting with the No. 12 Oklahoma Sooners thanks to a pair of interceptions.

But on Texas' first drive of the second quarter, he got back into a groove and gave the No. 3 Longhorns the temporary lead as a result.

After passes of 13 and 18 yards to Jordan Whittington and Xavier Worthy respectively, Ewers found tight end Gunnar Helm wide open in the end zone for a 22-yard touchdown on 4th and 1 to give Texas a 14-10 lead.

Helm, who had a 25-yard catch-and-run on fourth down in the first quarter, now has the first touchdown of his college career.

Take a look:

Headed into Saturday, Helm was potentially set for a big role in the offense with star tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders battling an injury. But even with Sanders active and playing, Helm has still made his presence felt.

As for Ewers, he's been continuously been praised by coach Steve Sarkisian leading up to the game.

“I think Quinn, obviously, prepares really well. Always does," Sarkisian said Thursday. "I think that I’d much rather have the quarterback that can perform really well when the lights are shining the brightest than the other way around. And so I’m appreciative of that, that he definitely shows up in these games."

"The players around the quarterback need to play well in-game, right? It’s not all about him. We need to make sure that we’re playing really good complementary football with our defense and our special teams."
