Longhorns RB D'Onta Foreman Signs With Chicago Bears

D'Onta Foreman, a former Doak Walker Award winner for the Longhorns, will now play for his fourth franchise in four seasons.

Former Texas Longhorns running back D'Onta Foreman had a breakout season in 2022. He'll have a chance to prove his value once more on a new team in 2023.

Foreman agreed to terms with the Chicago Bears Thursday evening on a one-year deal worth $3 million. Foreman will now play for his fourth team since being drafted in 2017.

A former third-round pick by the Houston Texans, Foreman has bounced around the league before landing with the Carolina Panthers in 2022. Last fall, the former Longhorns posted career numbers as the feature back in the Queen City following All-Pro Christian McCaffery's trade to the San Francisco 49ers.

Foreman finished with 203 carries for 914 yards last year. He also scored a career-best five touchdowns and averaged 4.5 yards per carry. Foreman will replace David Montgomery in Chicago as the feature back in offensive coordinator Luke Getsy's system.

Montgomery, a former third-round pick out of Iowa State, agreed to terms on a three-year deal with the Detroit Lions Tuesday evening.

One of the best to walk through Austin, Foreman established himself as a vital part of the Longhorns' offense from 2014-16. Foreman rushed for 2,774 yards and 20 touchdowns on 431 carries during his three seasons on the Forty Acres.

In 2016, Foreman became the 27th running back in FBS history to rush for 2,000 yards in a single season. He finished the year rushing for 2,028 yards on 323 carries and scored 15 touchdowns. For his efforts, Foreman won the Doak Walker Award, given out to the top running back in the country. He was also named an All-Amercian and a first-team All-Big 12 recipient.

Foreman is now the third former Panthers offensive player to join the Windy City franchise since the start of free agency. Chicago traded the No. 1 pick in the 2023 draft in exchange for two first-round picks, two second-round picks, and receiver DJ Moore. On Wednesday, former Panthers backup quarterback P.J. Walker agreed to terms on a one-year deal.
