Texas Grabs No. 2 Seed In Big 12 Tournament After Win vs. Kansas
The path is clear to a Big 12 title. Can Texas Men's Basketball clinch it before the start of March Madness?
The Longhorns will serve as the No. 2 seed in the Big 12 Tournament next week in Kansas City. Texas will have a bye in Round 1 and will face the winner of No. 7 seed Oklahoma State or No. 10 seed Oklahoma in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
Fighting for either the No. 2 or No. 3 seed, Texas secured its status as the second-best program in the conference with a 75-59 win over No. 3 Kansas in their season finale Saturday evening. The Jayhawks (25-6, 12-6 Big 12) had already clinched the No. 1 seed entering Saturday's match at the Moody Center, but a loss for Texas would have placed the program at No. 3 behind Kansas State.
The seeding marks the highest rating for Texas since 2011, when the program also nabbed a No. 2 seed in the Big 12 Tournament before making a run in the NCAA Tournament to the Round of 32.
The Big 12 Tournament begins Wednesday, March 8, with first-round games at the T-Mobile Center. All of the tournament games will be televised nationally on ESPN channels.
All time, the Longhorns are 28-23 in the tournament and 1-6 in the championship game. Here's a list of every game leading up to the quarterfinals:
