Longhorns' Brock Cunningham Reveals Plans for Next Season

Despite the added fan spotlight that comes with being from Austin, Brock Cunningham admits he's "loved every minute" of being with the Texas Longhorns.

Despite all the changes throughout the Texas Longhorns men's basketball program over the last few seasons, forward Brock Cunningham has remained.

And on Thursday, he confirmed that he's not going anywhere just yet.

“Yes sir, I’ll be back at Texas next year,” Cunningham said.

The Austin native will now suit up for his sixth year as a Longhorn next season. And despite the added spotlight from the fan base that comes with being from the area, Cunningham admits he's "loved every minute of it."

“Playing in front of the hometown, the positive is that it was the dream to grow up to play here,” Cunningham said. " ... Something that a lot of people don’t know about Austin kids playing at Texas is there’s a little bit more pressure. Everyone knows that you’re from Austin. I would say that would be really the only one negative, but it’s all about how you look at it. I’ve embraced being the Austin kid since I stepped on campus. I’ve loved every minute of it.”

After Monday's loss to the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Cunningham now has 101 collegiate appearances with the Longhorns under his belt. Another season means he could be one step closer to breaking AJ Abrams' mark of most games ever at Texas with 144.

But for now, he's focused on the season.

“That’d be a nice record to have, but I’d rather go get a Big 12 Conference championship, another tournament championship, and make a run,” Cunningham said.

Cunningham is averaging a career-high 4.8 points this season along with 3.3 rebounds and one assist. He posted a career-best 15 points on 5 of 6 shooting in the win over the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Jan. 24.

He and the Longhorns will host the Oklahoma Sooners at the Moody Center on Saturday.
