AUSTIN -- The Texas Longhorns have been dealt a major blow in the 2024 recruiting class.

Per reports Saturday from On3's Jamie Shaw, the Longhorns have released four-star Lexington, S.C. guard Cam Scott from his National Letter of Intent. Scott officially signed on Nov. 8 after committing to Texas in Aug. 2023.

This marks the third time in a year that Texas has released a signee from their NLI. The Longhorns lost commitments from 2023 signees Ron Holland and A.J. Johnson last offseason, as they chose to pursue professional opportunities instead.

Scott was named South Carolina’s Gatorade Player of the Year last month. He was set to arrive in Austin next season with a talented 2024 recruiting class that features five-star guard Tre Johnson and four-star forward Nic Codie, but that trio is no more.

Scott had received offers from programs like Alabama, Oregon, Auburn and Clemson along with Florida State, Georgia and LSU. It will be interesting to see if one of these programs re-opens their pursuit of him.

Scott was expected to make an impact as a freshman, but now the Longhorns have another hole to fill on the roster headed into the 2024 campaign. Texas has already lost Dylan Disu, Max Abmas, Brock Cunningham and Ithiel Horton to eligibility while reserve pieces Gavin Perryman, Alex Anamekwe and Chris Johnson have all transferred. Dillon Mitchell and Tyrese Hunter have still yet to make an announcement on their decision for next season.

Rodney Terry and staff now have one more thing to worry about as the Longhorns will likely look to ramp up their transfer portal activity even more in the coming weeks.
