Weaver is the winner of the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, the conference announced Monday, after his performances in wins over Texas Tech and Oklahoma State. He averaged 15.5 points and six rebounds in 26.4 minutes per game during those two contests, including a season-high 16 points in the win over the Pokes on Saturday.

This season, Weaver is averaging just six points and 3.2 rebounds after only reaching double figures once in non-conference play. However, he saw an increased role once the Big 12 slate began, earning all six of his starts so far this season against conference foes, which has been highlighted by six double-digit scoring efforts.

As a result, Weaver has received some high praise from other Big 12 coaches, most notably Houston’s Kelvin Sampson and Oklahoma State’s Mike Boynton.

Weaver and the Longhorns visit the No. 11 Baylor Bears tonight at 8 p.m. CT.
