Texas Longhorns G Chris Johnson Enters Transfer Portal
AUSTIN -- The roster dominoes for the Texas Longhorns are continuing to fall as the beginning of the offseason gets underway.
Texas lost its third player to the portal on Tuesday, as guard Chris Johnson will be transferring after just one season in Austin. On3's Joe Tipton was the first to report the news.
Johnson, who originally signed with Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks as part of the 2023 recruiting class, appeared in 17 games for Texas this past season. The Missouri City (Houston) native averaged 1.1 points in 4.5 minutes and played in seven conference games. He scored a career-high five points in 15 minutes in a win over Delaware State in the second game of the season.
The Longhorns have now lost Johnson, Alex Anamekwe and Gavin Perryman to the portal. All three were in a reserve role this past season, with Johnson receiving the most playing time out of the group. Texas is already set to lose multiple big names due to eligibility reasons, but has yet to have any major contributors hit the portal this offseason.
With the arrival of 2024 signees Cam Scott and Tre Johnson, it's possible that Chris Johnson would have to fight for more playing time once again next season. He'll now look to land on his feet in a situation that potentially offers him a larger role.
