Texas to Face Colorado State in First Round of NCAA Tournament
The No. 7 seed Texas Longhorns will face the No. 10 seed Colorado State Rams in the Round of 64 in Charlotte on Thursday after CSU beat Virginia 67-42 in the First Four on Tuesday.
This will mark the third all-time meeting between Texas and Colorado State. The Longhorns lead the series 2-0, though the last meeting was Dec. 15, 1952 in Austin.
The Rams (25-10, 10-8) were a somewhat surprising inclusion in the First Four this season, as they were seen by many as a lock to land an at-large bid in the first round. Colorado State proved that the committee made a questionable choice and left no doubt against Virginia, as forward Joel Scott finished with a game-high 23 points and 11 rebounds.
Led by Allen, Texas native Isaiah Stevens, Colorado State secured notable wins over Creighton, San Diego State and Nevada during the season. In a deep Mountain West Conference, the Rams finished seventh in the regular-season standings before bowing out to New Mexico in the semifinals of the conference tournament.
