AUSTIN -- The Texas Longhorns and Texas A&M Aggies are set to renew their historic rivalry in the SEC next season, but the two programs are already battling it out ahead of time in the college hoops transfer portal this offseason.

Per multiple reports, the Longhorns and Aggies are both hosting Oregon State transfer guard Jordan Pope for visits next week. Texas will get the first crack at it on Tuesday before Pope heads to College Station on Thursday. He still has two years of eligibility left.

Pope, an Oakley, Calif. native, has played the past two seasons at Oregon State. He's started 63 of 64 games in his college career while playing 34.6 minutes averaging 15.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists. Though the Beavers have struggled the past two seasons, he's had some big-time performances and moments. This past season, he hit a game-winning fadeaway triple at the buzzer to shock then-No. 9 Arizona in an 83-80 win in January. Pope scored 30 points in the victory and failed to reach double figures in just one game the entire season.

The Longhorns are in desperate need of roster pieces after losing multiple names due to eligibility reasons or the portal. If Pope is inserted alongside incoming five-star freshman guard Tre Johnson, Texas could boast one of the more dangerous backcourts in the SEC next season.
