AUSTIN -- The Texas Longhorns have had their fair share of inconsistencies to begin Big 12 play this season, but one constant has been the performance of guard Max Abmas, who continues to be Texas' go-to option on offense.

Despite Texas falling to 1-2 in conference play after Saturday's 76-73 loss to West Virginia, Abmas posted a season-high 32 points against the Mountaineers on 7 of 13 shooting from three-point range. This came a few days after he hit the go-ahead jumper with 6.2 seconds left to beat Cincinnati in a 74-73 thriller on Jan. 9.

As a result, he's earning some much-deserved individual Big 12 hardware.

Abmas was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on Monday, per an announcement from the conference. TCU's Emanuel Miller was named the Player of the Week.

This mark the second time Abmas has won the conference's Newcomer of the Week award. The Oral Roberts transfer earned the honor during the Dec. 18 edition of the awards.

The Big 12 shared some of the impressive numbers Abmas has had over the past two games.

"Abmas averaged 23.5 points and 4.0 assists in 36.0 minutes per game while converting 48.4-percent (15-31) from the floor, including a 50-percent (10-20) mark from three-point range, and 87.5-percent (7-8) from the free throw line," the conference said in the press release.

This season, Abmas has reached double figures in every game while averaging a team-high in points (18.0) and assists (4.4).

He and the Longhorns will look to build some momentum when they host UCF at the Moody Center on Wednesday at 7 p.m. CT.
