Texas Longhorns’ Max Abmas Wins Big 12 Newcomer of the Week

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas Longhorns guard Max Abmas has been named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, per an announcement Monday.

Abmas has averaged a team-high 17.8 points and 4.2 assists per game this season. In Texas' 96-85 win over the LSU Tigers in Houston on Saturday, he finished with a team-high 20 points to go along with six rebounds and seven assists.

He's said previously he's going to stay confident on offense, something that showed against the Tigers.

“Continuing to stay the course and trust my work, never getting too high or too low, that’s big for me,” Abmas said after the win over Texas State on Nov. 30. “I’m going to shoot with a lot of confidence.”

Abmas has been the focal point of Texas' offense this season. He's far and away the team leader in field goal attempts, as he's taken 140 shots so far this season. Tyrese Hunter is second with 90 shot attempts.
