Red River Redemption: Max Abmas Leads Longhorns Past No. 11 Oklahoma

The Texas Longhorns pulled off a major road upset over the No. 11 Oklahoma Sooners on Tuesday.

Looking to build off of the biggest win of their season, the Texas Longhorns visited the No. 11 Oklahoma Sooners in Norman on Tuesday night having won five straight over their arch rivals with sights set on another.

And with a dominant second half, they did just that while sending the "Horns Down" fanatics in the Oklahoma crowd back home with a loss.

Max Abmas scored a game-high 22 points and Dylan Disu posted 19 points and 10 rebounds as the Longhorns (14-5, 3-3) stifled No. 11 Oklahoma down the stretch of the second half to secure their second straight top-11 conference win in a 75-60 victory.

Texas guard Chendall Weaver added a season-high 11 points and four rebounds off the bench while Dillon Mitchell pulled down 13 rebounds and scored eight points.

Oklahoma (15-4, 3-3) got a team-high 15 points from Jalon Moore, but the Sooners were out-scored 43-27 in the second half after heading into halftime with a one-point edge.

The Longhorns jumped out to a 7-0 lead which eventually built to 18-9 after a 9-2 run, but two thunderous dunks from Moore sparked an eventual 17-2 Sooners run that got the crowd back into the game.

Leading 28-22, the Sooners had already built a 13-0 edge in fastbreak points, but the Longhorns weathered the storm headed into halftime as OU led 32-31. Texas was led by Abams and Weaver, who both had eight points apiece.

A few minutes into the second half, the Longhorns put together a 10-0 run to take a 47-39 lead.

The Sooners answered with a 9-2 run to avoid falling into a double-digit hole, but that changed quickly. Texas built its lead back up to eight before a triple from Disu gave the Longhorn a 65-54 edge, their biggest of the night at that point after a 10-0 run.

From here, Texas dominated on both ends for the rest of the way, as the Sooners never strung together consistent offense in order to mount a comeback. Meanwhile, Abmas and Disu closed the game out.

The Longhorns will visit the No. 21 BYU Cougars on Saturday.
