Longhorns Closing in on Two Veterans in Transfer Portal

The Texas Longhorns are the closest they've been this offseason to landing a commitment via the transfer portal.

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas Longhorns are yet to receive their first major commitment of the offseason via the transfer portal.

But that could soon be changing.

The Longhorns are in the final handful of choices for Virginia transfer forward Kadin Shedrick and Rice transfer guard Quincy Olivari.

Shedrick revealed his final choices to On3, as he'll be deciding between Texas, Missouri, Duke, Kansas State and Xavier. He'll be making an official visit to Austin on Tuesday, April 18.

LonghornsCountry.com was the first to report on March 31 that Texas has contacted Olivari. The conversations between the two sides now has the program in position to land one of the most coveted guards in the portal. Olivari revealed on his Instagram that he'll be deciding between Texas, Auburn, Miami and Xavier.

In No. 7 Texas' 87-81 overtime win over Rice in Austin on Dec. 12 - the same day former Texas coach Chris Beard was arrested - Olivari nearly led the Owls to a major upset on the road by tying a game-high with 28 points on four made 3s to go along with five rebounds and four assists. He is Rice's all-time leader in 3-pointers made (230), and reached the 30-point mark four times this season, failing to post double figures in scoring just three times.

As for Shedrick, he didn't post the most insane scoring numbers this past season, but showed his impact stretches far beyond the offensive stats. At 6-11, 231, he's got impressive size and length that helps him provide high-energy play as a big man on both ends. This season, he had nine games with at least two blocks and five games with at least four blocks.

The Longhorns will be staying busy in the portal, but would certainly love to land both of these guys when they make their decisions in the coming weeks.
