'You Never Know': Stephen Jones Teases Cowboys Drafting Longhorns RB Bijan Robinson
Texas Longhorns star running back Bijan Robinson may be gone by pick No. 26 in this month's NFL Draft. In fact, many publications have Robinson off the board as high as No. 10 to the Philadelphia Eagles. However, that doesn't mean the Dallas Cowboys aren't keeping an eye on him.
During a recent visit with 105.3 The Fan's K&C Masterpiece in Dallas, Jones was asked about Robinson, specifically, and did not exactly shoot down the possibility of the Cowboys selecting the running back. Instead, Jones gave fans a tease, telling the Fan that 'you never know' what might happen.
"Bijan's just had a great career at Texas," Jones said. "I don't think I've seen a set of circumstances where he's not a first-round pick in almost any draft. So hats off to him... I’m sure when that first day (of the draft) is over, he’s certainly gonna have a team," Jones said. "And you never know.”
An earner of 4,215 total yards and 41 scores over four seasons in Austin, Robinson has been lauded as one of the best pure prospects and athletes in the draft. That said, teams have been reluctant to make big investments into running backs in recent years. No rushers heard their names announced in the first round of last year's draft, with the New York Jets getting things rolling with Breece Hall in the 36th overall slot.
No matter what Dallas wants to do with their first pick at 26th overall, however, that entire plan would of course hinge on Robinson still being on the board by the time the Cowboys are on the clock. And given that Robinson is a top-five talent, regardless of position, that scenario doesn't necessarily seem realistic. Then again, crazier things have happened.
