Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers Named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week
AUSTIN - Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers has officially arrived, upsetting the No. 3 Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa at Bryant-Denney Stadium on Saturday night.
And as a result of his stellar play, Ewers was recognized as the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week.
For all intents and purposes, Saturday night's win in Tuscaloosa was perhaps his most impressive performance as a Longhorn.
"I'm so fired up right now," Ewers said after the game. "We worked so hard this offseason and for it to finally show, it's just so special. I don't think it's really quite sunk in yet, what we did here, but I know we're going to enjoy this."
Not just statistically in terms of raw numbers either, but also because of his game management and poise.
Either way, Ewers was as good as ever, completing 24 of 34 passes for 349 yards and three touchdowns, including a beautiful moonshot score to Xavier Worthy.
He also led the Horns on an impressive fourth-quarter drive in response to an Alabama score, to put Texas back on top.
"I think that just goes to show how mature we are as a team," Ewers said. "After how much adversity we went through last year, and to learn from that and be able to bounce back, like you said our offense didn't flinch and the defense didn't either. I couldn't be more proud of these guys."
Ewers was not the only Longhorn to earn weekly honors either, with transfer wideout AD Mitchell being named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on Monday as well.
Mitchell, of course, finished the game hauling in the second pair of Ewers touchdowns, along with five catches for 75 yards.
Ewers, and Mitchell, will attempt to keep their momentum going this weekend against the Wyoming Cowboys in Austin.
