Longhorns 'Keep Coming Up' For Elite Transfer Guard Max Abmas

The Texas Longhorns seem to be trending for arguably the top hoops transfer on the market, Oral Roberts guard Max Abmas

Texas Longhorns head coach Rodney Terry is already doing work in the transfer portal.

And according to reports, he has the Longhorns squarely in the mix for former Oral Roberts transfer guard, Max Abmas, alongside Kansas State.

Abmas’ coach at Oral Roberts, Paul Mills, took to head job at Wichita State. Sources say Abmas will not be following him. However, two programs that do continue to come up with regard to the 6-foot-1 guard are Kansas State and Texas. Kansas State head coach Jerome Tang and Texas head coach Rodney Terry both have long-standing ties to the state of Texas. Abmas is a graduate of Dallas (TX) Jesuit College Prep.

Abmas, who entered the NCAA Transfer Portal earlier this month, currently sits as the NCAA's career leader in scoring.

Last season with the Golden Eagles, the 6-foot-1 Abmas averaged 21.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.1 steals and four assists per game, hitting 43.6 percent from the field.

He is also a two-time Summit League player of the year and a three-time first-team all-conference nominee.

And with the exits of Marcus Carr and Sir'Jabari Rice to graduation, Arterio Morris to the transfer portal, and Tyrese Hunter testing the NBA Waters, - not to mention the recent decommitment of five-star guard AJ Johnson - the Longhorns are all of the sudden short on depth in the guard department.

Abmas would go along way in solving that problem, and would likely immediately come in and serve as a starter.

Suffice it to say, the battle with Kansas State for Abmas is a critical one for Terry and company.
