Longhorns' QB Quinn Ewers and WR Xavier Worthy Added to Walter Camp Player of the Year Watch List
Being honored as the nation's best is something every college football player dreams of. Two Longhorns, sophomore quarterback Quinn Ewers and junior receiver Xavier Worthy, have a shot at making that dream a reality.
Both Ewers and Worthy were nominated to the Walter Camp Player of the Year watch list, the Walter Camp Football Foundation (WCFF) announced on Friday.
The Walter Camp Player of the Year recognizes the nation's top college football player, but the Horns have only secured this award historically three times (Ricky Williams, 1998; Colt McCoy, 2008-09).
Ewers gave hope to the Texas football program last year, especially when playing top-ranked Alabama in 2022. Only starting in ten games due to an injury, the playmaker completed 172-of-296 passes (58.1%) for 2,177 yards, 15 touchdowns and six interceptions on the season.
Ewers completed the fourth-most touchdowns in a season in Texas football program history last year, even while missing some of the season.
It is no surprise that Worthy will be one of Ewers' most consistent targets this upcoming season, especially since some believe he has a chance at securing the Heisman Trophy.
In his total 25-game career with the Longhorns, Worthy has recorded 122 career receptions for 1,741 yards and 21 touchdowns. His total touchdown count ranked at No. 3 all-time in Texas football program history.
In the middle of November, the Walter Camp Player of the Year award will be narrowed down to ten semi-finalists. In December the winner will be announced on ESPN’s College Football Awards Show, voted by the 133 NCAA Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors.
