Texas to Offer Head Coaching Job to Rodney Terry
AUSTIN - The Texas Longhorns season ended on Sunday night, following an Elite Eight loss to the Miami Hurricanes in Kansas City.
And after bringing the Longhorns to the precipice of their first Final Four appearance since 2003, interim head coach Rodney Terry is set to be offered the full-time job, according to a report from Horns247.
Per the report, should Terry and the Longhorns agree to terms, an announcement could come as soon as Tuesday.
Since taking over as the acting head coach in the wake of the suspension and subsequent firing of Chris Beard, Terry led the Longhorns on a surprise run, finishing 22-7, and narrowly missing out on a share of the Big 12 regular season title.
Terry then followed that up with a Big 12 Tournament championship win over Kansas, and a magical run through March Madness as a No. 2 seed, taking the Horns to their first Elite Eight since the 2007-2008 season under Rick Barnes.
When asked about his future with the program after the Miami loss, Terry was emotional but did not comment directly on his status, instead shifting the conversation to praise his team.
'I haven't really had a lot of time to give a lot of thought to that, to be honest," Terry said. "I've been so wrapped up and invested in my team. Again, I love these guys. Not only will I just love these guys for the time I got to coach them, I'll love them for the rest of their lives. I'll be at their weddings. I'll be talking to those guys when they have their firstborn."
Now, with the Horns planning to offer him the full-time gig, the ball will be in Terry's well-deserved court.
