Eli Manning Wants to Be 'Resource' For Arch With Longhorns

In this story:

Arch Manning has big shoes to fill once he finally hits the field for the Texas Longhorns as the starting quarterback - whenever that may be.

But until then, Manning will sit back and learn from current starter, Quinn Ewers, and head coach, Steve Sarkisian

One other resource Manning will have though is that of his family, including his uncle Eli, who joined the Pat MacAfee show to talk about how he plans to help Arch progress during his time in Austin.

“He’s already at Texas right now going through spring ball and, and, you know, I want to be a resource for him," Manning said. "But I’d never be the guy to say ‘hey you got to be doing this, you got to be doing some of that.’ You got to learn on the run. You got to just go in there, go to be a freshman in college, figure things out, figure out your schedule.”

This would hardly be a new phenomenon for Arch, either, as with uncles like Eli and Peyton, and a grandfather like Archie, advice surely comes in no short quantities.

That said, Eli enjoys picking the brain of his nephew as often as possible.

“Whenever we get together and get to see him in the summertime, get to see him at different times throughout the year," Manning said. "And you know, we always kind of set an hour or 30 minutes or we happen to be sitting there, you know, eating lunch and we pick his brain.”

And when picking is nephew's brain, Eli has been impressed with his level of football knowledge at his age.

Especially when compared to his own, of which Eli admits, he 'didn't know much,'

“I mean this was when he was in high school to see what he knows about coverages or what he knows about this just talking ball talking X’s and O’s,” Manning said. “I didn’t know much when I was a senior in high school about different coverages and different concepts. Now they’re throwing it a lot more in high school, so it’ll be fun as he now gets into college. The game is more similar to the NFL and everything going on just to be able to talk ball with him and see what he’s doing."

Arch will get his first chance to show the nation what he is capable of on Saturday in the Longhorns Orange-White Spring Game.

And maybe after that, Eli will have some pointers to help his development even further.
