Longhorns Women's Soccer Coach Angela Kelly Presented with Prestigious Award
Texas Longhorns' women's soccer head coach Angela Kelly was awarded with the Lifetime of Achievement Award Thursday by the Austin Soccer Foundation, per an announcement.
“As Wolfgang Sühnholz said at our 2017 Gala, Austin IS a soccer city,” said Board President Catalina Berry. “And we look forward to continue to growing and celebrating the wonderful and vibrant soccer community in Austin.”
The Austin Soccer Foundation is a non-profit organization led by volunteers. Its goal is to be of aid to the economically disadvantaged residents of surrounding Austin counties by utilizing the game of soccer to bring the community together. The Austin Soccer Foundation chooses to give back to the community by providing student-athlete and referee development sessions, along with academic advancement and field development programs.
Kelly has led the women's soccer program since 2011 and aided the Longhorns in winning a Big 12 Conference championship last season with her coaching expertise. She then made Texas soccer program history by upholding the title of the first Longhorn women's soccer head coach to be named as the Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year.
Not only has Kelly proved her soccer expertise through her coaching skills, but she dominated the field as a student-athlete. A soccer-star from The University of North Carolina, Kelly concluded her college career with a 97-1-1 record and four consecutive national championships under her belt.
Texas' now-head coach was also a part of the Canadian Women’s National Team for nine years, and in May of 2024, Kelly made history once more by becoming only the third woman ever to be added in the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame.
