5-Star Longhorns MBB Signee Ron Holland 'Really Excited' For Rodney Terry Hiring
The Texas Longhorns are reportedly finalizing a deal to make Rodney Terry the permanent head coach of the men's basketball program, following his magical run to a Big 12 tournament title and an Elite Eight appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
And now, it seems that the news of Terry's imminent hiring is already paying dividends on the recruiting trail.
On Monday, during his McDonald's All-American Game press media availability, five-star Longhorns signee Ron Holland expressed his excitement about Terry potentially staying with the program.
“I’m really excited about that,” Holland said. “Just knowing how hard he had those guys playing and he really deserves that job. Just to see him reach that goal and for them to give him the opportunity to continue to coach that team, it’s a really good feeling for me.
Holland, who ranks as the nation's No. 7 overall player, and the No. 4 overall small forward, originally signed with the Horns in November of 2022, before the suspension of the eventual firing of Chris Beard ever took place.
But, after seeing what the Longhorns can do with Terry at the helm, Johnson could not be more confident in the direction of the program.
And alongside fellow five-star signee AJ Johnson (No. 2 PG, No. 16 overall recruit), Holland has lofty expectations going forward.
"I get to stay committed to that team," Holland said. "Me and AJ Johnson. We get to go try get us a national championship next year.”
