Wyoming Cowboys Offensive Players to Watch vs. Texas Longhorns

The Wyoming Cowboys' offense may not seem like a threat from the outside, but some veteran offensive players can undoubtably do damage to the Texas Longhorns' defense.
In this story:

The Wyoming Cowboys have had a winning season in five of its last seven years that ultimately resulted in a bowl game appearance, but the Cowboys crave more.

A Mountain West championship has been on their minds for some time now, but one of the aspects that holds them back is the Cowboy's offensive troubles. Wyoming struggles offensively with the productivity of moving the football along with winning the time battle of offensive possession.

Wyoming's offense is nothing to brag about but the Cowboys have a veteran quarterback in Andrew Peasley and some weapons on the receiving and rushing end that can do some damage to the Texas Longhorns defense.

In fact, Peasley sealed the deal in arguably one of the most thrilling wins in the Wyoming Cowboys' program history against Texas Tech in Week 1. In the second overtime, and a fourth-and-seven play on the line, Peasley faced a blitzing Red Raider defense but calmly executed a ball to tight end John Michael Gyllenborg to tie the game. Sophomore running back Sam Scott then busted through a pile of defenders for the two-point conversion that left the Cowboys with a 1-0 record to start the season.

Here are the players to watch on Wyoming's offense in week three when Texas faces the Cowboys.

QB Andrew Peasley

This year, in the only two games of the season against the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Portland State Vikings, Peasley has totaled 350 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception.

He will be the key to the Cowboys' success on offense. If the Cowboys are going to have any kind of chance, it starts with Peasley

WR Wyatt Wieland

With the loss of Joshua Cobbs, the Cowboys' top receiving target in the 2022 season, to the Houston Cougars, Wieland is moving up to an anticipated target slot for Wyoming.

Out of high school, Wieland received numerous Division II offers, but only one offer from a major college, Wyoming as a walk-on.

Only after a year on campus, he was offered a scholarship to continue playing in Laramie. Now, Wieland is considered an offensive leader.

With only one year of eligibility left, the Cowboys will use Wieland as a strategy on both the receiving end and as a special teams weapon.

So far this year, Wieland has recorded five catches for 83 yards and one touchdown.

RB DQ James

The Cowboys lost three key players of their line at the end of last season, but the return of huge veteran center Nofoafia Tulafono may cause Texas some trouble to work around in stopping the run. With Tulafono's expertise at keeping defenses out of the backfield, James will shine.

James was ranked as a three-star recruit and the No. 263 overall recruit in Texas as a senior in high school, according to 247 Sports.

So far this season, James has had the most opportunities on offense to carry the football (23) but is only recording about three yards per carry, totaling 68 yards total.
