4-Star WR Freddie Dubose Loves Potential Of Longhorns QB Room
Freddie Dubose knows he's not a complete product. Most of the reps that occurred during his weekend at the Under Armor camp in Arlington were just a taste of what he could bring to the table at the next level.
Still, confidence is critical for any young pass-catcher to elevate his game at the next level. Even with a slow start, Dubose said he felt he was one of one working drills with the quarterbacks against a multitude of defenders.
"I don't think anyone was hanging with me where I'm at my recovery process," Dubose told LonghornsCountry.com. "Me myself, I wasn't where I should have been today."
The Smithson Valley product will be a name Texas fans should remember over the next several months. A 2024 recruit, Dubose already has a connection with the Longhorns staff, calling Austin a "home feel" that fits his needs.
"I just love the coaching staff," Dubose said. "Coach [Steve] Sark and coach [Chris] Jackson, I like them a lot."
Despite being one of the top receivers in the class, much remains a mystery surrounding Dubose's upside. Last season, the 6-1, 170-receiver suffered a torn ACL in August, thus forcing him to miss the remainder of his junior season.
Dubose said that he's currently halfway through his recovery process. For now, it's about working back up to speed before the start of his senior season.
While Texas looks like the front-runner to land Dubose, another UT could be making a late push in the recruiting game. Dubose said that Tennessee has been aggressive as of late, stating that the SEC East programs offer the same goals as Texas, just at a different location.
Right now, the Longhorns remain the favorite, though that could change following a visit to Knoxville. Debose said he was scheduled to visit Austin on March 25 before heading up to Rocky Top on May 25-28.
One area that has Dubose excited about potentially becoming a Longhorn is the stability at quarterback. All eyes are on Quinn Ewers entering spring practice, but Texas seems secure for the coming years. Last recruiting cycle, Texas landed the commitment of top quarterback prospect Arch Manning. The Longhorns also landed the verbal commitment of Cy-Fair's (Cypress, Texas) Trey Owens on January 11.
Trust is a crucial factor for what Dubose is looking for. As for Texas, he said he feels every quarterback will be able to find him with ease in the passing game.
"I know I'm going to have somebody that can put it in my hands," said Dubose. "I know that I can have somebody that I can trust with the ball at the quarterback position."
