His name continues to swirl around the opening at Georgetown, which makes sense because Harvard basketball coach Tommy Amaker has the credentials to merit more than casual consideration. Add his linkage to the area--he grew up in Falls Church, Va. just outside of Washington D.C.--and you have another connection. Add his Duke pedigree and you have another positive.

And if the Georgetown job was strictly a matter of X's and O's, and there was a mutual interest, Amaker and Georgetown could already have agreed to a deal.

As good as Amaker's basketball life is at Harvard, Georgetown, which could double or even triple Amaker's reported $750,000 a year salary at Harvard and which offers competition at the highest level, with national championships part of the culture,and is in the heart of a deep talent pool, has more to offer.

But if Amaker is involved, so his wife, Dr. Stephanie Pinder-Amaker, who has been his partner in the truest sense of the word since their days as undergraduates at Duke, more than 30 years ago.

If you look at Amaker's head coaching resume--at Seton Hall, at Michigan and at Harvard, Stephanie has always been part of the work package, at Seton Hall,at Michigan and at Harvard. It is not stretching the truth to say that Tommy would not take a job unless Stephanie had a job that she not only liked, but challenged her

At Harvard, the Amakers' have the perfect combination. Amaker has elevated Crimson basketball to championship level, something that hadn't been done in almost 60 years before he arrived.

Dr. Stephanie Pinder-Amaker is an Instructor in Psychology at the Harvard Medical School, and the founding director of McLean's Hospital College Mental Health Program, which serves students from over 200 institutions.

There is no reason for them to leave Harvard and Amaker has had opportunities in the past to leave. But this is Washington, it is Georgetown, it is a comfort zone for Amaker.

Amaker is indeed involved with the Georgetown job, you can almost guarantee that part of the package--and what may be now being resolved--is the proper landing place for Stephanie as well.

So if there is indeed an announcement that Tommy Amaker is the new basketball coach at Georgetown, there will also be an announcement that Dr. Stephanie Pinder-Amaker also has a new role.

There also could be no announcement of any kind from the Amakers, meaning that their life at Harvard is proceeding quite comfortably.
