Whipple Resurfaces as Pitt Offensive Coordinator

Former UMass head coach Mark Whipple new OC at Pitt

Two months after a stormy ending to a career at the University of Massachusetts, former UMass coach Mark Whipple will be the new offensive coordinator at the University of Pittsburgh.

Whipple, who was fired at UMass in November, will return to a city which had one of his greatest triumph's, when he was on the staff of Bill Cowher‘s Pittsburgh Steelers when they won the Super Bowl in 2006, led by 23-year old QB Ben Roethlisberger. Whipple was the Steelers QB coach from 2004-2006.

Whipple, who will join Pat Narduzzi's staff with the Atlantic Coast Conference Division champion Pitt Panthers, will replace Jim Chaney, who took a similar position at the University of Georgia.

It was only one of several coaching moves that are being made as the college and pro seasons wind down. Former Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano, is expected to replace Brian Flores as defensive coordinator once the Patriot season ends and Flores can take the head job with the Miami Dolphins.

Schiano, who had stints as the head coach at Rutgers and the Tampa Bay Bucs, is a long time friend of Patriot coach Bill Belichick.

And Boston College is expected to name former Tampa Bay quarterback Coach Mike Bajakian as its offensive coordinator, replacing Scott Loeffler, who left Steve Addazio's staff in December to become the new coach at Bowling Green.
