The Locksmith's Pick 6: Week 9

There's traffic chaos in Ann Arbor now: All of the signs have been stolen

In this story:

Imagine playing a schedule of ECU, Bowling Green, Rutgers, Nebraska, Minnesota, Indiana and Michigan State so far and feeling the need to gain an extra edge by stealing signs.

That's the most embarrassing part of all of this mess for Michigan. The Wolverines could have sleepwalked through their early schedule -- with or without Jim Harbaugh on the sidelines -- and they would still be where they are.

But let's be real here: It's a sign of the times (go ahead Jim, steal that line too).

When the Locksmith found out the FBI is a now involved there was some immediate anxiety that its investigation would expand to include his picks against the spread this season and how things have gone so horribly wrong.

Maybe the Locksmith should just steal someone else's overall win-loss record to replace his embarrassing showing.

On to the games:

Oklahoma over Kansas, giving 9

Jayhawks' uncertain QB situation makes this a daunting challenge for them, especially since the Sooners had their wake-up call against UCF last week. Focus will not be an issue for Brent Venables' guys this week.

BOSTON COLLEGE over UConn. giving 14

Very quietly, BC has won three straight, has rushed for more than 300 yards in two straight games for the first time in six years and now has stability and production from the QB position with Thomas Castellanos. Eagles are just too physical for UConn.

LOUISVILLE over Duke, giving 4 1/2

Uncertainty over QB Riley Leonard's status for Duke and Cards' return home after an inexplicable loss to Pittsburgh will have Louisville looking to make quick amends and stay in the ACC title chase. Duke has completed just 12 passes combined its past two games.

Oregon over UTAH, giving 6 1/2

Hate the idea of giving a Kyle Whittingham-coached team points at home, but Utes' uncertain QB play and sluggish offense will likely struggle to keep pace with the ultra-productive Bo Nix-led Oregon offense. Ducks will score. Utes don't have that kind of firepower.

RICE over Tulane, taking 10

After playing for almost all of the FBS schools at some point in his college career, it appears Rice QB JT Daniels has found a home in Houston. Owls are sneaky good. And their defense can keep Tulane within reach throughout.

MINNESOTA over Michigan State, giving 7

Not so much an endorsement of the Gophers -- though star RB Darius Taylor looks to be healthy again -- but a commentary on what a dumpster fire Michigan State is right now. The 49-0 no-try loss to Michigan was the Spartans' fifth straight. Look up the word "quit" in the dictionary and you will see Michigan State's team photo.
