The Locksmith's Pick Six: Week 12
We interrupt the ongoing Jim Harbaugh saga to bring you this: There's a huge game in the dissolving Pac-12 on Saturday, with Washington carrying an 18-game winning streak and playoff hopes in the unlikely setting of Corvallis.
Now that Harbaugh has accepted his three-game suspension -- an admission of guilt? -- college football can thankfully move on to other important things, such as games like Washington-Oregon State.
But if Harbaugh needs company to watch Michigan-Maryland from wherever he will be on Saturday, the Locksmith is available. He will even bring chips and dip.
On to the games:
Louisville over MIAMI, pick'em
It looks like a trap game for the 9-1 Cards, especially since it is on the road. But really, how many fans still care about Miami football at this point? The 'Canes struggle to get a homefield advantage when they're good. Expecting a Miami hangover from last week's loss to Florida State. Also skeptical of a Mario Cristobal team re-energizing after that game during a meaningless 6-4 season.
PENN STATE over Rutgers, giving 20 1/2
Rutgers might score 10 points. Might. So can Penn State score 30-plus? Put it this way: There is no school that Jimmy Franklin enjoys rubbing it in on more than Rutgers. So 45-10 looks about right.
OREGON STATE over Washington, giving 1
What are the oddsmakers telling us if the Beavers are favored over 10-0 Washington? No bigger Michael Penix, Jr. fan than the Locksmith, but Oregon State has been an overlooked 8-2 with a shot to still play in the Pac-12 title game. Beavers are 16-1 at home since 2021 too.
MISSOURI over Florida, giving 11
Can the Tigers follow up last week's romp over Tennessee with another dominant performance? At home, against a reeling Florida team that looks lost at times -- and is on a three-game losing streak -- Missouri will ride QB Brady Cook to another comfortable win to get to 9-2.
IOWA over Illinois, giving 3
It should be a typical Iowa game, which means something like 13-6 Hawkeyes. Just enough to cover.
WEST VIRGINIA over Cincinnati, giving 6
Not sure if the Mountaineers will feel like playing defense this weekend, but their offense should be good enough to handle a Cincinnati team that needed to beat Houston last week to get a Big 12 win. Bearcats are just not very good and being on the road won't help.
