Interview with UCF LB Commitment Samarian Robinson

Samarian Robinson defines why he chose the UCF Knights.
In this story:

One of the first commitments for the 2024 UCF Knights recruiting class came from an athlete that’s been on the rise, linebacker Samarian Robinson from Tallahassee (Fla.) Lincoln.

During the DRSportz seven-on-seven tournament in Davenport, Fla. this past weekend, Robinson took the time to do an interview before one of his games with TightAction 7v7.

So, why UCF?

“If I’m going to go to his (UCF linebacker coach Ernie Sims) camps, and he’s looking at me now, that means he’s interested in me and I’m interested in him.

“He was trying to build a bond with me. No other coaches were really trying to build a bond with me. They gave me offers, but they didn’t really text me. Ernie, he hit me up every day. All day every day.”

Their communication truly has been consistent.

“I talked to him last night. I am supposed to call him back after we get done with this (seven-on-seven tournament), and give him some footage of the games.”

As for what Robinson has done best on the field and how it will help him at the college level with the Knights, he was quick to answer.

“I’d say my length and speed.”

He has been playing the weak side linebacker spot for Lincoln, but that’s not always been his position.

“I play WILL, yes sir. Actually this is my first year playing it. But, before that, I played nickel, safety, wide receiver, just skill positions. But, this was my first year being a big-skill player. This has been a breakout year and I didn’t really expect it. I just kept on working and made sure I eventually got to the top.”

The change in Robinson’s size has helped him become a player the Knights coveted.

“I’m 6-2.5, and I weigh like 215 (pounds). That’s a long way from where Robinson was less than a year ago.

“I weighed like…187.”

Watching Robinson play for the first time was eye opening. He’s a really talented athlete that’s made for playing when the pads have been put on to maximize his power and strength. He still ran with much smaller athletes and showed off his overall physical skills.

It was also good to get to know Robinson a little bit. Nice young man and a good pickup for the UCF football program.
