UCLA Football: Eric Bieniemy Hints At Offensive Approach
After gaining five years of experience as an NFL offensive coordinator, including running the offense for a two-time Super Bowl champion winning team and a two-time NFL MVP in Patrick Mahomes, Eric Bieniemy is taking over the offense for UCLA. Along with this, Bieniemy has led an offense that ranked No. 1 in total offense three times and featured one of the most prolific passing offenses in the NFL. So what will he be able to accomplish with the Bruins?
The work for Bieniemy begins now, as the Bruins began spring practice earlier this week. While speaking to the media, Bieniemy shared some of what he envisions for the offense.
"I want to be an offense that's diverse, we do want to run it," Bieniemy told reporters. I do want to throw it. We want to makre sure we can come out here and efficiently and effectively move the ball up and down the field."
While the Bieniemy-led offense has exciting potential, the focus right now in spring practice is getting down the basics. Bieniemy said the Bruins didn't have their best day of practice, but he wants to see who grows from this, and ultimately evaluate who and what is best for the offense.
"I just want to see who can do what," Bieniemy said. "All of this right now is about an evaluation. Obviously it wasn't our best day, but I want to see how guys handle things when things aren't going well as part of the evaluation. Who can be resilient enough to overcome the adversity and find a way to pull everyone together, making sure that we can find a way to have the success we need to have."
