UCLA Football: Bruins Open Strong With No. 1 Pass Rush In The Country

The Bruins are off to a strong season and getting recognized for it!

Your UCLA Bruins kicked off their 2023 season by beating Coastal Carolina Chanticleers 27-13 at home. Impressive play for both quarterbacks and running backs helped move the chains on the offensive side, but the defense stopped the other offense from moving theirs.

The Bruins defense had 4 sacks as a unit and an impressive 10 tackles for loss. This performance awarded them the #1 Pass Rush ranking in the country by PFF.

3 of the sacks came from senior Laiatu Latu who is looking to follow up his 10.5 sack performance in 2022. 3 sacks in his first game will definitely turn heads for fans and scouts alike.

The Bruins prepared for this. With an emphasis on conditioning and recovery the defensive unit is ready to keep up with all of their opponents this year.

The Bruins combined for 10 tackles for loss and also 2 interceptions all aided by the impressive pass rush they are having. The constant pressure from the Bruins kept Grayson McCall and all of Coastal Carolina on their toes when on offense.

The Bruins are looking to improve on their 9-4 record last year and with many of these players taking big steps in the offseason, the team thinks they will have a better record than previous.

The team looks to improve to 2-0 on the season after their game against San Diego State where the Bruins are already heavy favorites.

Battles are won in the trenches. If the Bruins can keep up their work on both sides of the ball, this team will win a lot of battles.
