UCLA Bruins football team head coach Chip Kelly has conceded that, even after notching a second consecutive double-digit victory (a 35-10 win over the San Diego State University Aztecs last Saturday) to open up the club's 2023 season 2-0, he is continuing to adjust to some fresh NCAA amendments, designed to speed up the college game.

Tracy Pierson of Bruin Report Online was on the scene during a postgame Kelly presser, where he elaborated on his stance.

"We had seven drives because we had two three-and-outs, so that's not adapting to [the new rules that mandate a continuation of the shot clock in between plays]," Kelly said. "We had two three-and-outs and then we had a one-play drive."

"Every game is going to express itself differently and we have to be able to adjust. It's still a work in progress but we'll see how it kind of plays itself out," Kelly added. "But getting more drives by having three-and-outs, that's certainly not the plan."

When an attendant reporter noted that the club scored four touchdowns in a minute per drive, Kelly acknowledged the speed of the achievement.

"We did," Kelly said. "You always want to finish your drive in a touchdown... There's always things you can do to improve and you're never going to be able to get them until you can get into game situations.... So really at the beginning of the year, there's a lot of different situations that come up that you're going to have to be able to coach."
