Chip Kelly Reveals There's 'No Timetable' on Quarterback Dilemma

He will have to pick a quarterback soon, right?

The UCLA Bruins are embarking on a new chapter with uncharted territory ahead – for the first time since 2018, they will have a new quarterback leading their offense. Dorian Thompson-Robinson, their veteran QB, has moved on to the NFL, leaving the Bruins to navigate the transition to a new signal-caller. While it may not be the most comfortable position, it brings an air of excitement as UCLA boasts multiple quarterback options, each deserving of a chance to shine.

As head coach Chip Kelly faces the tough decisions that come with choosing a starting quarterback, he emphasized during Pac-12 media day that there is no rush or specific timetable to make the call.

UCLA was not among those seven teams and Coach Chip Kelly stated there’s “no set timetable” on when he will decide who the Bruins’ starting quarterback will be.

“I don’t know if there’s one thing,” Kelly said when asked what qualities he would take into account before naming a starter. “It’s really who we believe will give us the best chance to win going into the opening game.”

The spotlight seems to be on true star freshman Dante Moore from the Mid-West, who will join the Bruins this fall. All eyes will be on Moore, eager to see if he can perform at a high level in this demanding role. But he's not alone in the competition, as junior Ethan Garbers and transfer QB Collin Schlee are also in the mix.

The quarterback battle brewing at UCLA promises to be filled with excitement and anticipation. Coach Kelly, among others, eagerly awaits to see what his quarterbacks bring to the table.

“What I’m hopeful is over time with the training reps they get is that someone rises up a little bit over somebody else and it’s to the point that everyone can see that,” Kelly said. “It has to be won on the field.”
