Class of 2024 OT Jensen Somerville Commits to UCLA Football
After a bit of a lull on the recruiting trail, the Bruins are adding yet another key prospect up front.
Class of 2024 offensive tackle Jensen Somerville has verbally committed to UCLA football, the Lehi High School (UT) product revealed Wednesday on Twitter. Somerville, who just camped with the Bruins, picked up his offer on Tuesday and committed soon after.
Somerville was also sitting on offers from Arizona State, Army, BYU, Cal, Colorado State, Nevada, Northwestern, Stanford, UNLV, Utah State and Weber State.
The 6-foot-7, 290-pound prospect took an unofficial visit to UCLA in March, which was immediately followed by trips to San Diego State, BYU, Utah State, Arizona and Arizona State.
With Somerville holding down the fort at left tackle last fall, Lehi repeated as 5A State Champions after going a perfect 14-0. Somerville spun that spotlight to appearances at multiple invitationals and camps throughout this past offseason.
Somerville is rated as a three-star recruit by 247Sports and On3, although he has not been rated by Rivals or ESPN. In the 247Sports Composite, Somerville is ranked as the No. 7 player in Utah, the No. 58 offensive tackle in the country and the No. 701 overall prospect in his class.
UCLA now has four offensive tackle commits – Somerville, fellow three-stars Marquise Thorpe-Taylor and Joshua Glanz and four-star Mark Schroller – which is set to do wonders for the team's depth up front as they prepare to move to the Big Ten in 2024. Of the top eight offensive tackles in the West this cycle, four are committed to the blue and gold.
Between their 2022 and 2023 high school recruiting classes, the Bruins added just two offensive linemen, both of whom were three-star prospects ranked outside the top 500 nationally – Sam Yoon and Tavake Tuikolovatu. Of the six who joined in the 2020 and 2021 recruiting classes – none of whom were top 500 prospects – only four remain.
Offensive line coach Tim Drevno is well on his way to turning that around in his second full recruiting cycle, with Somerville, Schroller, Thorpe-Taylor and Glanz already pledged to UCLA. The staff did miss on four-stars Nathan Roy and Manasse Itete, though, and four-star Isaiah Garcia appears to be trending more towards Utah and USC.
Between Somerville, Schroller, Thorpe-Taylor, Glanz, three-star linebacker Isaiah Patterson, three-star linebacker Blake Tabaracci and four-star defensive back Khristian Dunbar-Hawkins, UCLA's seven-man class of 2024 ranks No. 52 in the country and No. 7 in the Pac-12.
