UCLA Football: How Bruins Hope To Benefit From Impending Bye Week

The only thing they can do is learn from the Utah game...
In this story:

After a tough loss on the road against a good Utah team, the UCLA Bruins head into their bye week with a feeling of improvement. They know that they played the Utes well, but just couldn’t come away with the big victory.

UCLA fell by a score of 14-7 to Utah, but now they will reflect on what has gone right for their team this season and get better from it. The hope is that the bye week will give them some extra clarity on things, and they can use that for the rest of the year.

True freshman Dante Moore didn’t play his best game of the season, but it was always a big task to ask him to go to Salt Lake City to get the win. He could have played better, but there were some positives from the game. He wants to make sure that he doesn’t have this type of game again.

Said Moore: “I think about Tom Brady, just many times hearing him after a loss, inside of him is like, ‘Damn, I don’t want to lose again,’ and I just know we have to learn from it.”

The kid has a lot of talent, but there are going to be growing pains. This is a great mindset to see from a young player like Moore. He wants to keep improving and make sure that he doesn’t feel the way he felt on Saturday when the clock struck zero.

As for the defense, it did play well against the Utes, but they couldn’t get the big stop when needed. Linebacker Kain Medrano gave his thoughts on the game, and spoke similarly to Moore, about getting better going forward.

Said Medrano: “We made some mistakes on defense, gave up a couple of chunks of yards, we could be tighter. I know the offense is going to go into meetings [Sunday] and get corrected what they need to get corrected. … I have full faith in this football team to come back out and we’re going to show you what we’re made of.”

Things don’t get any easier for the Bruins after the bye week, as they will welcome in the high-powered Washington State Cougars into town. They will need to be ready and focused for that matchup, otherwise, the final result will yield a familiar feeling to this one.
